Interested in raising your own poultry flock for meat, eggs, or both? Have you recently started a flock but feel you still have a lot to learn? Perhaps you keep laying chickens now but want to get into meat birds? Are you interested in learning how to raise poultry to market for supplemental income? If the answer is yes to any of these questions, you won’t want to miss The Power of Poultry, a MOTHER EARTH NEWS INSTITUTE in collaboration with The Livestock Conservancy and author/speaker Patricia Foreman.

The Power of Poultry is a one-and-a-half day event that will allow attendees to dive in with instructors and chicken experts for a jam-packed program with workshop topics that include choosing species, basic husbandry skills, managing laying and breeding flocks, infrastructure and predator proofing, and bird health and behavior.

This event is designed to be very personal and interactive, so space is strictly limited. Reservations are available first-come, first-served. Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind experience!

About the MOTHER EARTH NEWS INSTITUTE:

The MOTHER EARTH NEWS INSTITUTE is a platform designed for people looking to “go deep” into interesting, fun, and educational experiences over several days. Each Institute explores just one or two topics at our highest level of intensity. The Institute is limited in attendance to provide an interactive environment with the instructors and often times with actual hands-on training. Each Institute is usually “all” or “most” inclusive with packages that include lodging and meals. Participants in the Institute often make lifelong friends as we experiment and socialize together. All participants receive a certificate of completion at the end of each Institute.

Other past or future topics include The Joy of Cheese, The Basics of Beekeeping, and Finding Your Farm Tipping Point.

About Patricia Foreman:

Pat Foreman has presented workshops promoting the chicken movement across America. She is the developer of the Master Backyard Chicken Keeper Certification online and live courses. Foreman is the author of City Chicks: Employing Chickens as Garden Helpers, Compost Creators, Bio-recyclers and Local Food Suppliers, and Chicken Tractor: The Permaculture Guide to Happy Hens and Healthy Soil. She has degrees in animal science, pharmacy and a master’s of public administration.

About The Livestock Conservancy:

The mission of The Livestock Conservancy is to protect endangered livestock and poultry breeds from extinction. Why save them? These rare breeds are part of our national heritage and represent a unique piece of the earth’s biodiversity. The loss of these breeds would impoverish agriculture and diminish the human spirit. We have inherited a rich variety of livestock breeds. For the sake of future generations, we must work together to safeguard these treasures.
