Urban Homesteading is a unique, educational event platform designed to merge the intensive workshop forums from our MOTHER EARTH NEWS INSTITUTES with the exhibition space found at the MOTHER EARTH NEWS FAIRS. This inaugural Kansas event takes place in the heart of Lawrence on the 5th and 6th floors of the University of Kansas Student Union. The 5th floor hosts a marketplace featuring unique products and services for the budding urban homesteader and is open to the public. The 6th floor is reserved for registered guests and will feature more than half a dozen workshop spaces with talks and demonstrations by some of the leading authorities on organic gardening, energy independence, urban agriculture, food preservation, natural health and more.
The Power of Poultry

The Power of Poultry is a two-day event that will allow attendees to dive in with instructors and chicken experts for a jam-packed program with workshop topics that include choosing species, basic husbandry skills, managing laying and breeding flocks, infrastructure and predator proofing, and bird health and behavior. We’ll separate into groups and get hands-on with bird handling and processing (chickens will be supplied), and we’ll even enjoy recipes made by the resort’s culinary staff (featuring farm-fresh eggs and various types of poultry)!
